│Mullein Leaf Tea│
Mullein – also known as Verbascum Thapsus is considered beneficial for the lungs, acting as an expectorant. The herb helps the body to remove excess mucus from the lungs, as well as soothing the mucus membranes with its emollient properties.
It is excellent for curing bronchitis, heavy coughing, chest colds, and even asthma. Both the leaves and flower of the plant contain saponins, which are natural detergents that make a cough more productive in releasing and expelling phlegm from the walls of the lungs. It also contains mucilage, a gelatinous substances which soothes irritated membrane.
Mullein can be prepared as a tea, or if the taste isn’t preferred, it can be prepared as an inhalant. As a tea, you can steep the leaves as any other loose-leaf tea – and as an inhalant, you boil the leaves in water for 5 minutes, then inhale the steal for relief.
While Mullein can be used as a remedy for coughs, colds, and asthma, it can also be used preventatively from infections settling into respiratory tissues. Rather ironically, Mullein can also be smoked, thus considering itself the only type of cigarette to be considered beneficial to lung conditions.
