what are hydrosols?

Hydrosols are the product of distillation through plants which

are steam-distilled to release their essential oils. Hydrosol itself

is hydro, meaning water – and sol, meaning solution. It contains

the water-soluble micro-molecules of essential oils as well

as the water-soluble plant components and essence.

The micro-molecules of the essential oil are what give hydrosol it’s scent, and the plant components are what give it’s herbal and floral therapy.

Unlike essential oil added to water, true steam-distilled

hydrosols contain all of the nutritional components which

the whole plant materials naturally have to offer.

Hydrosols are not simply distilled water with essential oils added to them. Rather, some of the water-soluble plant oils combine with the water

and therapeutic properties, creating a more gentle, more diluted

product which is generally safer to use than an essential oil.

a little bit more

Hydrosols are a unique product, being a true part of distillation and cannot be manufactured synthetically. The micro-drops of essential oils which are left intact in the hydrosol are 100% pure as they come out of the still with a strong taste, soft scent, and a perfect pH balance of 5.5 – to match human skin. Being less volatile than essential oils, using it is like giving your skin a micro-dosage of the essential oil goodness directly.

what can they be used for?

Hydrosols can be used for purposes such as being applied directly to the skin or be substituted for water in skin care recipes without dilution. This makes them ideal for those who have sensitive skin. They can be used on skin as hydrating components such as creams or cleansers, effective toners, anti-inflammatory or cooling use, wound healing, added to you bath water, to make face and body masks, even used as cologne or perfume.
